Carlisle (Pennsylvania)
Carlisle Industrial School is the “grandfather” of the Indian Boarding Schools and its history has been researched on a larger scale basis than any Indian boarding school in North America.
Founded in 1879 by Richard Henry Pratt and funded by the federal government, the school would become a model for all the Indian boarding schools until its closure in 1918.
