Chilocco (Oklahoma)
Chilocco Indian School (Chilocco, Oklahoma), was founded in 1884 by the federal government and lasted nearly 100 years. It was the first vocational training school in Oklahoma and has an active Alumni Association which is currently working towards restoring the campus.
Upon closure of the school in 1980, the Council of Confederated Chilocco Tribes which includes the Kaw Nation, Otoe-Missouria Tribe, Pawnee Nation, Ponca Nation, and Tonkawa Tribe were deeded Chilocco lands to be held by the tribes in federal trust.
Some of these tribes have now built casinos on lands adjacent to the main school campus.
